Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park, often called Harbor Park by locals, covers over 241 acres and is the third largest park in the city. Amenities within the park include playgrounds, picnic tables with grills and scenic walking paths around the lake with plenty of natural habitats. Fishermen have the opportunity to catch large mouth bass in the 4-6 pound class. Harbor Park contains the largest piece of original native riparian forest and freshwater marsh and lake in coastal L.A. County. There are over 330 species of birds that can be found within the park.
Marine life enthusiasts appreciate the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, which serves as an educational, recreational, and research facility devoted to encouraging public participation in the conservation of the Southern California marine life. The Aquarium features 38 saltwater tanks displaying Southern California sea creatures such as sharks, eels, octopi and crabs as they would appear in their natural habitats. Visiting kids enjoy the tide pool “touch tank.” Educational information is provided via modern, interactive exhibits, daily slide presentations and special events.
